a pleasure of mine

i like to peek my feet
from underneath the covers;
a quiet defiance against a submissive force,
but a silent surrender to one unknown.

  1. Yes, very much. And although I would argue that comfortable and challenging are both crucial, for me it seems that ‘challenging’ usually prevails (which, only in the interest of balanced reporting, is NOT the same as saying “I usually prevail” (maybe one should expect that from ‘challenging’)

    – but then again, that may not be any of your business). Hmm…

  2. I find comfort in this one.

    Although not yet a trend, and thus officially too early to comment, I sense a theme in these last two poems – more than the use of your bed as a platform, but maybe on a grander scale the conflict between the warm and familiar with the challenging (dare I say tantalizing? exhilarating?). I may have seen other hints of this in earlier poems. If that’s true, I wouldn’t expect an answer to that problem anytime soon. Of course, I could be wrong (again).

    Thank you! I’ll just rest here a moment longer.
